Ison Harrison
Design FYI was appointed by Ison Harrison solicitors to reimagine an outdated reception into a contemporary, structured environment that reflects their professionalism and identity. The space no longer supported the way the business operated. The redesign focused on modernisation, spatial clarity and a more intentional experience for both visitors and staff.
Through careful space planning, the layout was reconfigured to introduce defined zones while maintaining a sense of openness. Circulation was prioritised, allowing movement through the space to feel natural and uninterrupted, while clearly distinguishing between reception, waiting and meeting areas.
WAITING AREA
The bespoke reception desk anchors the space. Its soft, curved form contrasts with the surrounding architectural lines, creating a welcoming focal point upon arrival. Fluted timber detailing wraps the desk, introducing warmth and tactility, while integrated lighting enhances its presence and creates a soft ambient glow.
The reception area was designed to feel open yet intentional, with a clear separation between arrival and waiting zones. The waiting area has been carefully considered as an extension of the overall experience rather than an afterthought. Three distinct seating zones have been created, combining sofas, tables and integrated bench seating to accommodate different needs. Upholstered elements, feature planters and acoustic treatments work together to soften the environment, improving both comfort and sound quality while clients wait.
MEETING ROOMS
The introduction of additional dedicated meeting rooms was key to improving the functionality of the space.
The acoustic treatment has been fully integrated into the design language of the space. Rather than appearing as functional add-ons, the panels are composed as a series of bespoke elements that read as a visual feature in their own right. Paired with full-height curtains within each meeting room, the result is a controlled, quiet environment that ensures both comfort and complete privacy for client conversations.
BESPOKE FEATURE WALL
A defining element of the project is the bespoke feature wall, which brings identity and cohesion to the space. Vertical slatted panels in a deep, modernised blue reference the client’s brand, reinterpreted in a more contemporary and architectural way.
Subtly integrated within the wall is a recessed circular detail, adding depth and visual interest without overpowering the space. The repetition of vertical lines creates rhythm and structure, while the darker tone grounds the interior and contrasts with the lighter, softer materials used throughout.
This feature acts as both a visual anchor and a representation of the brand, balancing corporate identity with a more refined and human-centred approach to design.
